Timing depends on how many states you’ve requested appointment in and the response times from each state’s Department of Insurance.
Yes, you can start selling immediately in the states you’re appointed in once you receive your official email confirmation and your assigned broker number.
You may only sell in the states where you have already received an approved appointment. However, you can easily add more states by uploading additional licenses on your online account.
To download a list of your clients enrolled in your small business book of business, you will need to log into the TPA site.
To sell our plans, you must be appointed with Delta Dental. This includes agents and agencies in California and Maryland, where a formal state appointment is not required — an internal appointment through Delta Dental is still necessary to ensure compliance and eligibility for compensation.

Groups can only make changes to their benefits at renewal. When it’s time for renewal, the TPA sends a letter to the broker 90 days prior to the renewal date, and to the group 60 days prior to the renewal date. If the group wishes to make any changes to their plan, the broker works with the general agent (or, if there is no general agent, their Delta Dental Account Manager) to quote any benefit changes and assist the group with completing a new application. The general agent or Delta Dental Account Manager will then submit the completed new application to the TPA. New contracts and EOCs will be issued by the TPA reflecting the new benefits.
If the broker does not receive their copy of the renewal letter, or if they misplace it, they can request a copy of the renewal letter from their TPA.
Dental and vision enrollments do not need to match—employees can select one or both at different tiers.
The rate structure selected by the group (3-tier or 4-tier in all states except Pennsylvania, 2-tier and 3-tier in Pennsylvania only) must match for dental and vision.
DeltaVision coverage is only available to groups working through Allied Administrators.
To assist a group in aligning their dental/vision renewal date and open enrollment period with their medical plan, you will need to contact the TPA, provide them with the medical renewal date, and request alignment.
The client's coverage will begin the first of the month based on the client's request, with a few exceptions:
Commissions are included in the standard market rates for each group sold and are based on a percentage of the collected monthly premium. They are paid directly by the group’s TPA every month, except for groups sold through Emerson Rogers, LLC in California, in which case the commissions are paid by Emerson Rogers.
In addition to our standard commission, Delta Dental’s Small Business Broker Rewards Program may allow you to earn even more. Enroll to get access to the rewards dashboard and track your earnings as you retain clients and close new small group sales.
For more information on commissions and group plan information, contact the group’s TPA.
Commissions are paid based on your broker number, which is tied directly to the legal entity you listed on the appointment application.
