LightCare: give your clients more options to protect employees’ vision


When you’re selling benefit packages to clients, you know that stronger benefits lead to stronger recruiting and retention. The Harvard Business Review reported that 88% of employees consider health, dental and vision insurance heavily when deciding where to work.

DeltaVision® can give businesses those extra benefits while protecting their employees’ health. Some plans have a feature called LightCare, which also helps pay for other types of non-prescription eyewear that can protect employees’ eyes.

The dangers of UV rays and blue light

Screens are everywhere, at work and at home, and they emit blue light, which can disrupt sleep and might even be linked to eye strain and irritation.

UV rays are also harmful, easily passing through eye tissue and increasing the risk of eye problems such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Glasses with blue light filtering or UV protection can help reduce exposure to these harmful rays.
 

What is LightCare?

LightCare is a benefit in some DeltaVision plans that gives employees the option to use their frame allowance for:

  • Non-prescription sunglasses to protect their eyes from UV rays
  • Blue light-filtering glasses for anyone spending long hours in front of a computer or phone
     

Employees who aren’t using their benefit on corrective eyewear can use it to purchase non-prescription sunglasses or blue light-filtering glasses from their VSP® Vision Care doctor, Visionworks or eyeconic.com.

For small businesses, LightCare is included in the Deluxe and EasyOptions plans starting January 1, 2026. For mid/large businesses, LightCare is included in the Advantage Plus, Preferred and EasyOptions Preferred plans.
