FAQs

A FEDVIP plan is a dental insurance option available to federal employees, annuitants and military retirees and their families. These plans are administered through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program, and offer access to Delta Dental’s large provider network.

In 1987, Delta Dental was honored to receive the first federal government contract to administer government dental plans to the military community.

Both Delta Dental FEDVIP plans offer coverage to fit your needs and budget. And, if you use an in-network FEDVIP dental provider, costs are 100% covered for preventive services such as exams and cleanings. Finding a dentist is simple with our extensive nationwide network and our easy-to-use Find a dentist tool. With 70 years of experience and over 78 million enrollees, we’re proud and excited to support you with our Federal Employees Dental Program.

Yes, but your out-of-pocket costs may be lower if your provider is in Delta Dental’s nationwide network. Use our Find a dentist tool to check.

Retiring from federal service

  • BENEFEDS will work with your annuity system to set up premium deductions from your annuity after they receive notification of your retirement from your payroll department.

Leaving federal service

  • If you are not part of the Deferred Resignation Program, you will no longer be eligible for FEDVIP coverage. Your coverage will end on the last day of the pay period during which you separate. There is no 31-day temporary extension of coverage.

Relocating for federal service

  • If you are enrolled in a regional dental plan and relocating out of the service area, you may be eligible to enroll in Delta Dental’s national FEDVIP plans.
  • If you’re enrolled in a nationwide/international dental plan and are moving to another zip code, please keep in mind that your premiums may change. The effective date for the change will be the next pay period start date after you advise BENEFEDS of your new address. Please go to BENEFEDS.gov to update your address.

Reinstatement of coverage

  • If you recently left the federal workforce and you have confirmed with your agency that you will be returning to an active pay status, please contact BENEFEDS via email, including your first and last name, to request reinstatement of your FEDVIP dental and/or vision coverage. If you prefer to speak with a BENEFEDS customer service representative, please call 1-877-888-3337, TTY 711.
