Supporting employees’ overall health starts with benefits that are easy to manage and meaningful to use. At Delta Dental, we designed SmileWay® Wellness Benefits¹ to help groups strengthen preventive dental care while supporting broader wellness goals for members with 1 of 14 chronic conditions.

SmileWay is an optional enhancement available with Delta Dental PPO™ plans that provides eligible members with additional preventive and periodontal care. By encouraging more frequent dental maintenance, SmileWay helps employees stay healthier and helps employers support long-term health outcomes.

Important note: SmileWay Wellness Benefits are not currently available with DeltaCare® USA plans.

Oral health plays a key role in overall wellness, and preventive dental care is one of the most effective ways to support employee health. SmileWay Wellness Benefits give you an opportunity to enhance your benefits without added complexity.

SmileWay offers:

• A simple add-on to PPO plans
• Built-in support for preventive care
• A benefit that aligns with broader wellness goals
• Minimal administrative lift after implementation

By making it easier for employees to access additional cleanings and gum care when medically appropriate, SmileWay helps promote consistent care and early intervention.

How SmileWay works

SmileWay Wellness Benefits can be added to eligible Delta Dental PPO group plans. Once added, covered members and their dependents who have been diagnosed with 1 of the 14 chronic conditions including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), cancer, chronic kidney disease, diabetes and heart disease, will qualify for enhanced preventive and periodontal services.

Eligible members can receive:
 

• 100% coverage each calendar or contract year for one periodontal scaling and root planing (deep cleaning to treat gum disease), per quadrant
• 100% coverage each calendar or contract year for up to four total procedures (any combination of):
  • Prophylaxis (routine teeth cleaning)
  • Periodontal maintenance
  • Scaling in the presence of moderate or severe gingival inflammation

These services are designed to support ongoing oral health and help prevent more complex dental needs over time.

A practical addition for a comprehensive benefits strategy

Chronic conditions and oral health are often connected, and preventive dental care can play a role in supporting employees who manage ongoing health needs. From an employer perspective, programs that encourage preventive care may help reduce dental costs and support workforce well-being.

Adding SmileWay to a PPO Plan

SmileWay Wellness Benefits are available as:
 

• An add-on for mid-size and large group Delta Dental PPO plans
• An included feature on most small business PPO plans
