Seeing a dentist in Delta Dental’s network can save your employees money through no-cost exams and reduced rates on procedures. As a benefits administrator, you’re in a great position to let them know why staying in network is an added bonus to their dental coverage.
When dentists agree to join Delta Dental’s PPO networks, they become members of our nationwide network of providers — the largest in the nation.¹ They also agree to discounted, capped fees, saving members up to 40%.²
With Delta Dental PPO™ and Delta Dental PPO Plus Premier™ plans, members can see any dentist they want, but they’ll save the most money by visiting a dentist in our network. And with three out of every four dentists in the U.S. in our network,³ chances are their dentist is already a Delta Dental dentist.
With DeltaCare® USA, a DHMO-type plan, members must see a dentist in the DeltaCare USA network. At the time of service, they pay only the copayments listed in their plan documents for services received, making dental care more predictable and affordable.
All plans cover emergency out-of-network care for stabilization or palliative relief.
Out-of-network providers have no contracted rates with Delta Dental; members will pay for the full cost of dental services upfront and be reimbursed only up to their plan’s limits. They’re responsible for any balance between the plan's limits and the provider's regular fees.
| Feature | In-network dentist | Out-of-network dentist |
|---|---|---|
| Out-of-pocket costs | In most plans, members pay less out of pocket when they visit a provider in our network. | Some plans increase out-of-pocket costs when members go out-of-network. |
| Discounted fees | In-network dentists agree to charge discounted rates for their services. | Out-of-network dentists have not agreed to the discounted rates. |
| No prepayment required | Members pay only their portion of the bill, and we’ll pay our share directly to their dentist. | We reimburse members for the service based on their benefits, but the dentist may charge up front for the full cost. |
| Claim submission | In-network dentists file claims on the member’s behalf. | Members will likely have to file their own claims. |
| Protection from balance billing | In-network dentists may not charge members more than what they've agreed to accept from Delta Dental. | Out-of-network dentists may charge members for the difference between what the plan pays and their usual rate. |
| No unbundling | In-network dentists agree not to charge separately for services that are part of a treatment (like a local anesthetic). | Out-of-network dentists may charge for these services separately, making overall costs higher. |
| Quality assurance | All Delta Dental dentists go through a rigorous credentialing process to ensure they are properly licensed and trained. | We can’t verify that out-of-network dentists are properly licensed, credentialed or provide quality care. |
| Patient advocacy | We can advocate on behalf of our members, ensuring they receive the best treatment and care. | We can’t advocate on behalf of our members. |
Groups can add DeltaVision® to a Delta Dental plan. We’ve partnered with VSP®’s large nationwide network of vision providers so your employees have many choices when it comes to eye doctors.
Employees with DeltaVision also benefit from in-network care, getting low out-of-pocket costs, a wide selection of frames and exclusive savings on the widest selection of lens enhancements. A VSP network doctor will help keep your employees’ eyes healthy with a WellVision Exam® — an annual eye exam that aids in early detection of health conditions.
Members who go out of network may be missing out on the value of their benefits. They may end up paying more out of pocket. If they stay in network, they can unlock savings with a higher frame allowance and additional savings.
They may also risk spending more money on eyewear if they need to replace their new eyewear purchase. If members purchase their eyewear out of network, they may be able to submit a claim for partial reimbursement at vsp.com.
Check with your broker to see if you can provide DeltaVision for your business.
Members can use our Find a dentist tool to choose a provider in their area. They can search by location or dentist or office name and get results showing address, phone number, ratings and reviews.
PPO members also have access to the Cost Estimator tool from the member portal. They can access a more limited version of the Cost Estimator through the Delta Dental mobile app, which features in- and out-of-network fees.
DeltaVision members can use VSP’s Find an eye doctor tool to search by location, doctor or office name.
If a member recently visited an out-of-network dentist, they’ll likely have to submit a claim. Claim forms are available when they log in to the member portal. Creating an account is easy.
For DeltaVision, members can submit an out-of-network claim through VSP’s member portal at vsp.com.
